Ukraine steadfastly adheres to its commitments in the field of unconditional and universal observance of IHL norms by all categories of personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the repulsion and deterrence of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. This is facilitated by the organization of additional classes on IHL in the training system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is carried out, in particular, under the foundation of the Geneva Center for Security Sector Governance (DCAF).
The significant volume of such support is convincingly demonstrated by the results of the work carried out. Thus, in 2025 alone, with the assistance of DCAF, 52 practical training sessions with personnel were organized and conducted in the troops (forces), which made it possible to cover more than 2,000 servicemen from among the non-commissioned and officer ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with additional classes on the study of IHL norms.
It should be noted that these trainings were conducted with an emphasis on practical modulation of possible problem situations in the application of IHL norms on the battlefield with the determination of the optimal algorithm of actions for their resolution, taking into account national and international experience.
We would like to remind you that this DCAF project is coordinated by the Central Legal Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and is aimed at providing military personnel with important skills and knowledge in the application of IHL norms in conditions of high-intensity combat operations. The DCAF implementing partner for this project is the NGO “League of Officers”, which has a Memorandum of Cooperation with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
